It is not unusual for Christians, at some point in their pilgrimage, to ask, "What is God's will for my life?" Indeed, for a self-conscious Christian seeking to live according to God's Word, that question can dominate one's thinking. For example, a young person who is looking at college and career choices in the near future can find the answer very elusive. But there is another example that is more universal; when the Christian suffers, he may struggle to understand God's will and purpose for him. It is a good question and it is a question as old as the Bible in the book of Job. As we are starting to see in the book of I Peter, the apostle continually links the redemptive work of the Lord Jesus Christ with the potential, and occasional reality, of suffering in this world. In our text, the apostle links both redemption and the will of God with suffering. The result is an even deeper comfort.
