Throughout the book of I Peter, reference has been made to what has been written before. We have been reminded of the message of the prophets, the animal sacrifices, the temple in Jerusalem, the priesthood, the royal line, the pilgrimage of our forefathers in the faith, and the ancient promise of an inheritance. This Lord's Day, the Apostle Peter points once again to the Old Testament Scriptures. But this time, Peter refers back to one of the Psalms which extols the sovereignty and watch-care of the Lord. This rightly comforts us and gives us hope as we look to His power and care, but there is another side to His sovereignty and watch-care. As much as He cares for and loves His people, He opposes and is against those who are and do evil. For the Christian, this means that even though the wicked often prosper for a time, God will not withhold is judgment.
