Once again I will preach a sermon in the series The Worship That Pleases God, and we will begin the section indicated above. We have spent all of our previous times emphasizing the person and work of God with respect to worship, and the means that He has prescribed for proper worship. Now we want to consider some of the hindrances to worship that exist on the human side. Although we have been redeemed and renewed by grace, we continue to be beset by our indwelling sin. This sin encumbers us even in our worship of God, and unless it is quickly recognized and persistently mortified it will corrupt our worship. Even at that, our worship is made acceptable to God only through the blood of the Mediator. Today we will look at the first commandment, which addresses the issue of idolatry in worship. May the Lord will be pleased to bless the ministry of His word to our hearts.
