Let's return to Jesus' Good Shepherd allegory in John 10:1-21 (we'll unpack the second half this morning, vv.11-21). What we saw last Sunday in vv.1-10 is that Jesus is the True Shepherd, and the Pharisees are thieves, robbers, and strangers. Guess who the sheep follow? And Jesus is the only Door of the sheep, and Pharisees remain thieves and robbers. Guess who offers salvation and the abundant life? Jesus' point is obvious: there is 180 degree difference between the Good Shepherd and Israel's Bad Shepherds, between the self-sacrificing Son of God and the self-seeking Jewish leaders.
What makes for a good shepherd…?
Four truths that identity Jesus as the Good Shepherd: 1. The Good Shepherd owns His own (vv.11-13). 2. The Good Shepherd knows His own (vv.14-16). 3. The Good Shepherd pleases His Father (vv.17-18). 4. The Good Shepherd divides the world (vv.19-21)
