There is a way that God will accept to be glorified and worshiped. We have seen that He gives a lot of leniency and grace in worship that is done in Spirit and in Truth. But he never accepts worship that is false or mingled with sin. We are told in 1 John 4:1 "Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world." The Samaritan woman was deeply concerned with true worship. She worshiped her idea of God, in the way she thought might best please her God. She knew his name and his commandments. She kept most of the ordinances as long as they didn't cramp her physical needs or desires.‎ She even held to the customs and traditions she had been taught. Why she could even trace her lineage clear back to Jacob according to verse 12. And as soon as she had the chance, she flaunted the fact that they worship according to the Pentateuch. She kept that Law mostly and obeyed the Dietary restrictions. She fasted when God said to fast. She feasted when God said to feast. My definition of fasting. Active focus on the Glory of God, The Will of God, and the Good of Others. Obedient Contrition, Mourning, Repentance and Communion with God, through the act of setting aside the desire for self-pleasure and fulfilled passion for that which is perishing. The very act of depriving the natural man's base desires and abstaining from food for a time of intense and focused prayer and concentration on the Person and Work of Christ, and the Word of God, all to the Glory of God. The very act of fasting is and Must be Glory of God focused and can never be self centered or self focused.
