Pride and arrogance is such a 'natural' part of our world that it is either accepted as normal or as something that is pretty harmless. Our age justifies people who vaunt themselves or are puffed up by calling them confident or determined or their arrogance is excused because they do have great gifts or talents. However, what does God think about such behavior? What does He call the proud look or haughty eyes? He calls it an abomination! Bragging or being puffed up violates all of our relationships--with God and people. Love is the exact opposite of bragging about one's abilities or accomplishments and therefore does not do such things. If you find yourself wanting to vaunt yourself before others, or if your heart is puffed up with yourself, realize that you have forsaken the way of love, that is, you have forsaken Christ's way. It is Christ alone who is worthy of all recognition and glory. Our goal should be to turn everyone's attention to Him so that He receives all praise and honor. To be concerned that our contribution is recognized and appreciated is to be intoxicated with self. May we forever decrease and Christ increase.
