When promises are made, we want guarantees. The bigger the promise, the bigger the guarantee we want. What is the biggest thing God can offer is a guarantee for his promises? We explore this at the end of Genesis chapter 22, and find that God guarantees his promises to Abraham – and guarantees the fruition of those promises to us – with the highest thing possible: his own name. When God's promise to Abraham is opened up in the New Testament, we find that it leads us to Jesus Christ and the assurance of our obtaining the reality of those promises through Christ's work. Not only that, but the story of Abraham ends with an epilogue which demonstrates that God immediately provides for the fulfillment of his promises.
