Since humanity is that which all mankind has in common, Christ became a man thus making “humanity” something that God now has IN COMMON with us! And so, FELLOWSHIP is a term used to denote a relationship of communion, togetherness, partnership, or COMMONNESS. And when that commonness is mutually enjoyed, the participants are said to have fellowship.
Now notice that “fellowship” as used in our culture has an element of study and so learning built into it. A medical doctor in training can assume a one year long fellowship in which he trains under an attending physician. In this case, the student participates in an intensified form of learning, which again we call a fellowship. And so it is in the Kingdom of God. The fellowship into which we are brought upon conversion involves discipleship, growth, learning (cf. Matthew 28:18-20; 2 Timothy 2:2; Deuteronomy 6:6-7).
