Continuing on in Romans 9, we explore verses 6-13. We begin a notoriously controversial, but wonderful teaching concerning God's election. This particular passage points out through examples of Israel's patriarchs that it is not physical descent, but God's promise given to His elect that determines the children of God. Though difficult to grasp, this doctrine is ultimately freeing to the uttermost, as it gives us assurance that the God who promises is responsible for choosing and keeping those who are His, and therefor nothing can separate us from Him who has called us.
