Standing Firm In God's Grace In the midst of suffering, we must stand firm in God’s grace! We must be vigilant (8) Be sober (self-controlled) (8a) Be watchful (on the alert) (8b) Why? He prowls about like a roaring lion (8c) He seeks someone to devour (8c) We must resist the devil (9a) How? Being firm in our faith (9b) Realizing that our suffering is not unique (9c) We must see that God sovereignly strengthens His Church. (10-11) He takes the Church thru a short period of suffering (10a) He has called us to His eternal glory in Christ (10b) He will restore, confirm, strengthen, & establish us (10c) He will have the dominion forever and ever (11) Conclusion (12) Purpose of the letter: To exhort and attest this grace—you all stand firm in it! (12b) Application: Joyfully persevere in suffering, knowing the grace of God will prevail!
