Jeremiah was in the palace prison being held for treason by Zedekiah. The Babylonian army was making a siege against the city of Jerusalem, and Hanameel came to Jeremiah because he wanted to sell him a piece of land. According to the law he could sell his land that it might be redeemed for future generations of his family and God brought Hanameel to Jeremiah. A deed would be issued and sealed in a clay jar, all the Jews of the court became witness of this transaction, and God would provide the promise of a return to the land. Our greatest title deed is that of the New Testament Covenant ratified by the blood of Christ, a promise of redemption.
