No sooner had Jesus been baptized than the Spirit led Him into the wilderness to face His adversary. It appears that before He could begin His public ministry, He had to confront and defeat "the god of this age." The first Adam succumbed to Satan; the second Adam gained the victory through the Word of God, and immediately began his prophetic ministry, preaching the message of John, "The kingdom of God is at hand, Repent and believe in the good news." He then called as His disciples, not the wise, the noble or the mighty, but the fishermen Simon, Andrew, James and John. They accompanied Him to the synagogue in Capernaum. Confronted by a demon-possessed man, Jesus commanded the unclean spirit to come out of him, and he obeyed, to the amazement of all who were present. Thus He evidenced that He was not only a prophet, but a king, and his fame began to spread throughout all Galilee.
This message addresses genuine repentance, genuine faith, and the call to be a fisher of men.
