Some people act as if God's grace is at their beck & call. But consider, … Is it possible to lose your opportunity to be saved? Is walking away from the gospel a one way journey into eternal darkness? Questions like these suggest the sober theme of Hebrews' five warning passages. Listen to these verses:
• 2:1 – drifting away from (drifting past) what we have heard • 3:12 – take care brethren that there not be in any of you an evil unbelieving heart that falls away from the living God • 6:4-8 – for in the case of those who have once been enlightened…it is impossible to renew them again to repentance • 12:15 – See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God...
But some would say that our text this morning presses home Hebrews' most terrifying warning of all:
• 10:26, 27 – For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment.
Is walking away from the gospel a one way journey? It can be.
Turn your New Testament to Hebrews 10: 23-31 (our focus will be on verses 26-31).
This is a warning to church attenders who are not Christ followers. Every church has them! If that's you, you will either follow Christ or desert Him. Hebrews offers this terrifying but necessary warning!
How to lose your opportunity to be saved. 1. Terrifying admonition (vv.26-27). 2. Sobering explanation (vv.28-29). 3. Holy identification (vv.30-31).
