In your dealings with brothers and sisters in the Lord, “How many of you have known Marah?” How many of you have been stung by someone you trusted? Or have been hurt or let down or betrayed by one you were helping? Or have known the blessings of a relationship only to be stabbed in the back such that your rejoicing has turned to bitterness? This, brothers and sisters, is what Marah is all about!
Now the questions we ask at this point are these: How are we to cope? What are we to do with a brother or sister who has become “Marah” to us?
Through the example of Samuel we are given a five-fold exhortation on how to Minister to Difficult People. Our text contains the actions of this man of God when he was confronted by Saul, who to him was a difficult person.
