Aim: To be a grace-saturated church—directing all people everywhere to Jesus.
Doctrine: Peter's speech at the GA set the stage for gospel grace to be preached in every age and to everyone. It was completely consistent with Peter's unique commission, and yet all the glory is to go to God (in Christ).
Exegesis: How God's grace grows in and through Christ's church: first, as we see in others what the Lord has also done in us (vv. 6-9); then, as we realize that no one can be saved by any standard of performance (v. 10); finally, as we all rest fully in and on Christ alone (v. 11).
Further application: Why gospel grace must be at the very heart of what the church is: because works-righteousness is our default (and cursed) fallen tendency, and because there is no salvation at all outside of Jesus and His loving atonement of us.
Key verses: vv. 10-11 ''Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.''
