In this passage in Luke we are talking about the storm that the disciples faced along with Jesus. However, there's a greater context in this passage. Jesus is slowly revealing Himself to His disciples, and He is taking them deeper into their own understanding of who Jesus really is.
These men are being equipped to be Ambassadors for Christ who will eventually give everything up for the Glory of Christ Jesus, including their own lives.
But right now in this passage, Jesus is giving them life lessons to show them undeniably who He really is. It would not be good enough for Jesus to say hey guys I'm the Messiah, God in the Flesh. He has to teach and train and bring them to their own conclusion about who He really is. He has to take them through impossible Storms. And that leads us to the greater context of this passage. Did you know that storms are not a natural occurrence. You and I can go online or we can watch the news and every day will see a weather report that will tell us of what the weather is going to be like in our area.
And quite often we see that storms are going to pop up and they are going to be from small little showers to terrifying hurricanes and tornadoes.
We have become so used to seeing the weather patterns that we neglect to realize that the weather the storms the tumult of nature itself is an evidence of divine wrath. The very nature that we see is preaching to us a sermon about the nature of our own hearts.
