The primary focus of this sermon is on Jesus' agonizing prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane in which we see that in his humanity, he was terrified and dreaded going to the cross. But as a Son, he learned obedience through what he suffered, and so became complete or perfect, and thus the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him (Heb. 5:9). In his prayer wrestling in the Garden, he submitted not to his own will, but to the Father's will. Thus his mind was settled, and he set his face like a flint to proceed to the cross. He put into practice the prayer he had taught his disciples, "your will be done on earth as it is in heaven." -continued next week in this 7-sermon series from Matthew 26,27, & 28.
