Jeremiah continues to call out to Israel to repent and be restored to it former place. Israel was a son, privileged of God and called unto the Lord, yet it was acting as though it was a slave and a servant bound to another master. What a shameful thing for Israel to do to be so stiffnecked, and wayward. God now through Jeremiah calls out and reminds Israel of her true place and how she may be restored to former blessing. But the sad thing is she has sought other alliances, alliances that would betray her and take the crown off her head and she would be laid waste and spoiled of her enemies. The further rebuke is that Israel had not one to blame but herself, she no longer feared the Lord but bowed down to the desire of her enemies. How sad it is when worldly alliances have such power over us that we do become the servants of sin and loose our place of blessing with the Lord and that was the case with Israel.
