After expressing confidence that God would finish the good work He had begun in the Philippians, Paul prays that it would be so. He prays for ever-increasing love beyond expectation, expressed through a knowledge of God's will and the discernment needed to show that love properly. In this way the saints will be able to distinguish between good and best that they might pursue that which is excellent. When the Lord is finished with His work in His people, there will be a harvest of the abundant and full formed righteousness that comes through Christ, all to the glory and praise of God.
