We are going to consider this morning the Mighty God who does mighty works. David writes in Psalm 62:11 "Once God has spoken, twice have I heard this. Two things I have heard: that power belongs to God and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love." King David declares without equivocation, "Absolute power belongs to God." What does that mean? What is God? God is a spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchanging in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness and truth. God is infinite, eternal and unchangeable in His power. Absolute power belongs to God. The theological term for this omnipotence. God is omnipotent. His power is boundless. There are no boundaries on God's power, not time, not eternity, not creation. Absolutely nothing can stop God from doing what He wills. His power is infinite, eternal and unchanging. This means that God can't get stronger or weaker. It means God will never reach the limit of His power. He can't every employ all His power. That's why God can make statements about never slumbering or sleeping. We work, use our strength get tired, need to rest. God never uses up power so that he has to be refreshed. |
