THE DANGER OF NOT MATURING Hebrews 5:11-6:12This is a very important issue for each person to settle for themselves: Can I be saved and then lose my salvation? But we believe in the doctrine of Eternal Security. That means that once you are truly a child of God you can never do anything to change your status as a child of God. This is a very important issue for each person to settle for themselves: Can I be saved and then lose my salvation? They are like babies, still incapable of swallowing anything but the simplest spiritual food. Someone has suggested we go through three stages of growth. In stage one, we are fed. In stage two, we feed ourselves. In stage three, we feed others. These first century Christians were still in stage one. They had to be fed the simplest diet, like newborn babies.1. The Reason, 5:112. The Rebuke, 5:12 3.The Reminder, 5:13-14 4.The Remedy, 6:1-3 That means that once you are truly a child of God you can never do anything to change your status as a child of God. Salvation gives you a desire not to sin anymore. If you are truly saved you would be living your life different from the rest of the world. In fact, one of the greatest arguments for security is the last section of this chapter! Heb. 6:13-20; see also John 5:24; 10:26-30; Rom. 8:28-39Four Kinds of Evidence of Assurance.1. The Evidence of Your Life (6:10). 2. The Evidence of Your Love (6:10). 3. The Evidence of Your Diligence (6:11 ) 4. The Evidence of Your Faith (6:12). When you KNOW you are saved that gives you the confidence and assurance to serve the Lord with gladness. It's a great blessing to be saved. But it's a greater blessing to be saved and SURE that you're saved!
