Was the church at Rome maybe feeling a little snubbed by the great Apostle Paul? Paul immediately moves to assure the Romans of his loving concern and his longstanding plans to minister to them face to face. This morning’s text, in a sense, is almost like an introductory apology so that Paul can assure the Romans that his care for them is sincere despite his absence and so that they will be more willing to read and to accept his long letter. So in our text in verses 8-15, Paul explains three evidences of his sincere desire to see and to serve the saints in Rome. First, in verses 8-10, is the evidence of Paul’s persistent prayer. Second, in verses 11-12, along with prayer is Paul’s longing for mutual ministry with the Romans. And third, comes the evidence of obligation. Actually, Paul’s apostolic obligation as it unfolds in verses 13-15.
