We started this section by looking at a very brief portion on Church discipline. Much of it focused on the attitude that the pastor was to have as he dealt with the different members of the church. The emphasis of all of Timothy is how to “hold the line” that God has commanded. He has given us direction on how to live at home and in the church and we are commanded to hold to that direction. Remember Paul’s statement to Timothy in 1 Timothy 3:14-15 “These things I write to you, though I hope to come to you shortly; 15 but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.” This whole letter is about the proper behavior of the Church. So we see it here. Paul goes on to tell Timothy to “honor widows that are widows indeed.” This is what we talked about last week. God cares about women. He cares about men too, but He is the ultimate advocate of the woman. So here the Church is lead to the correct behavior towards widows. Let’s look at what the Spirit then tells Timothy through the apostle Paul.
