Practicing patience (i.e., longsuffering) in our relationships is vital in a fallen world because offenses abound. We need to passionately pursue patience because being patient toward someone who has offended or injured us is not the natural thing that flows out of our hearts at such times. It is by being patient with people in the context of personal offense that God is glorified. God uses this path to sanctify us, to bring people to Himself, to mature other believers and to heap up greater judgment upon those who never repent. Our minds need to be renewed to see that being patient with all people is powerful Kingdom work, more powerful than tearing down a city that belongs to God's enemies.
