In the last several verses of Deuteronomy Chapter 3, Moses reminds the people of Israel that due to the Lord’s anger against him because he struck, rather than spoke to the rock at the waters of Meribah as recorded for us in Numbers 20:1-13, Moses himself would not be permitted to enter into the Promised Land. And so here in the words of our text, before he dies, Moses seeks to impress upon this people who had been delivered from slavery in Egypt that in order for them to prosper in the Promised Land they must be found living by God’s Law! And oh, my dear friends in the Lord, listen: as a people who have been similarly delivered from sin and death and Hell and Satan solely by God’s grace, solely through faith in the Name of Jesus, that very same thing is true for us as well! That is, if we sincerely desire to live the abundant life on earth which Jesus promised to all those who love Him, and if we also sincerely desire to enter into the full joy, bliss and glory of our eternal inheritance in heaven, then we, too, like the Israelites of old, must also be found Living By God’s law! |
