We are in our second of four weeks covering our church mission statement.
Our mission is to build a community of gospel-centered people (disciples) as we:
1. Worship God in spirit and truth (John 4:24; Acts 2:42).
2. Serve one another by exercising our spiritual gifts (I Cor. 12:4-6; Eph. 4:11-16).
3. Proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to the world (Mt. 28:18-20; Acts 1:8).
4. Live out a biblical worldview in all spheres of life (Jer. 29:7; Mt. 5:13-16).
Last week we spoke the priority of God-centered, Christ-centered, heartfelt worship which is regulated by Scripture.
Tomorrow we will talk about our unity and love for one another as we used our gifts to build each other up. Much of our time will be spent expounding Ephesians 4:1-16. We also will look at the body life of the early church as expressed in Acts 2 and 4.
A FIRE (Fellowship of Independent Reformed Evangelicals) pastor posted on his facebook status this week, “The local church is not merely a place to attend. It is a family to join.” This statement reflects the contrast between how many in our day perceive their role in church (as members of an audience) as opposed to being members of a family, or parts of a body. My hope is that as we look to God’s Word, Christ’s love will encourage us to make every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
