The future, as far as the Kingdom is concerned, is not arbitrary, but significant and vital. God's intention for us is that we are self-consciously aware of and working towards His ultimate goal. There is much to learn from the past, but the movement of the Kingdom is forever forward into the future and this ought to possess our thinking. The future ought not to make us afraid or despondent, rather it is a challenge given to us by God to be shaped in accordance with His will. Each generation has its own unique challenges to overcome and deal with, but God expects them to be dealt with so that progress is made along the line moving closer towards His final goal. Kingdom living entails evaluating where we are at, where we ought to be, and thus strategizing how one is going to move towards the intended goal. It is about advancing in the future and thus acting and planning in the present in order to achieve the most effective results down the road. The importance of the future permeates the whole of Scripture.
