Every verse in this section begins with the Hebrew letter "teth." The Hebrew word for "good" begins with this letter. Consequently, the psalmist focuses on God's goodness. The Hebrew word for good is used six times in these eight verses.
"Good" is God's standard of perfection, "Then God saw everything He made, and indeed it was very good" (Genesis 1:31). Jesus emphasized this in his question to the rich young ruler when He asked, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God" (Mark 10:18).
God's goodness is a progression in the psalmist's thoughts as he finds comfort in God's affliction (v. 50) and fellowship with God in the night seasons (vs. 55-62). He has come to a point where he can see that God has been good to him all through his pilgrimage (v. 54) in life.
