In this week's passage, Acts 28:9-18, Paul continued his defense before King Agrippa. It is clear he was not concerned about his deliverance. They were holding him without legitimate charges, but that is not where he focused his time. Instead, he made it clear that there was one Lord over all both the Jews and the Gentiles and that Lord sent him to the Gentiles. The Gentiles needed to be brought from darkness into light as much as the Jews needed to be. God had appointed Paul for that purpose. When he related his conversion on the Damascus road, it is very different than how he has related it before. In this telling, the focus is on how Jesus Christ sent him to witness to the Gentiles, so that they could receive forgiveness of sins and join in the inheritance of those who had faith in Christ. Paul showed love to his audience by being more concerned about them than he was about his own freedom. It is a wonderful example of what it looks like to esteem others better than yourself.
