In this passage we find King Saul of Israel being tested. Would he heed the word of God and obey it regardless of the cost? Or would he place his own wisdom above that Word? Saul failed the test. The seeing of difficult circumstances led Saul to rely on his own wisdom rather than on the clear, revealed Word of God. Are we today guilty of the "Saul Syndrome?" Are we tempted to let our culture and circumstances drive us to rely on our own wisdom and make adjustments to the message of the gospel in order to make it more attractive to today's society?
