As Paul waited in prison for his case to be brought to trial before the Romans, his great fear was not that he might be sentenced to death or left for years in jail. His great fear was that he might through it all bring shame to His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. His heart's yearning was that whether in life of in death Jesus Christ would be exalted by what he did. Paul revealed that he believed God was going to keep him here so that he could be used by the Lord for their progress and joy in the faith. While the Philippians waited for the outcome of Paul's trial, they were to be walking worthy of Christ and of one mind and one heart for the faith of the gospel. If we lose our focus on the priority of living and preaching the gospel we will fail in obedience to Him, regardless of what other good things we may endeavor to do. As we live and give the Gospel to those around us we are not to be surprised at the opposition that will arise. This is sign of destruction for them and of points to our own God wrought salvation.
