: Remembering that Elijah is a man with a nature just like ours is helpful as we study the life of Elijah. He went from the very apex of God's victory to the point of despairing of his own life in just a matter of days. We can see how as he obeyed and walked in dependence on the Lord he was used greatly of the Lord. When He took his eyes off the Lord in fear of Jezebel's threat, he became again just a tired, beaten and depressed man. All of us are possibly minutes away from despair. All that needs to happen is for us to lose our focus and trust in Him and thereby put ourselves in charge where we can do nothing but fail. As our Lord said, “Apart from Me you can do nothing”.
