What are we to do with all of the good theology we have been taught by the inspired apostle in the book of Galatians? Are we to take this teaching and solid theology and leave it on the shelf where it will gather dust? Or is it intended for our obedience and application? Are you supposed to live out the principles expressed in the gospel of grace, or are you to nod in agreement and then simply go your way without a second thought? The apostle has been careful to take the theological truth (complete salvation apart for meritorious works) and apply that truth to what the believers in Galatia were doing and saying. In particular, on whether they were insisting on works of the law for merit. The theology, whether it was good or bad, had a direct impact on the actions of those who professed faith. In the text today, there is another application. It is not that you are not to perform works which are good. Rather, good works are to be performed in the right way and toward the right recipient. This is good theology and practice. – Pastor Schlegel
