A number of years back many churches experimented with the 'Seeker-Sensitive' movement. The basic premise made the potential 'unsaved seeker' the chief determiner of what would take place on Sunday morning. The results were not good, and in many cases were awful. Worship became synonymous with 'music' and the music was performed, more and more, by fewer and fewer. Sermons were scaled down and simplified. The whole emphasis was to make the unbeliever feel comfortable and help them 'enjoy' church.
It is fascinating to me that we find a two week 'Worship Festival' in the book of Numbers that never mentions any music at all. That doesn't mean there wasn't any music - it just means that music is not the whole of worship. In fact, worship encompasses our gifts, our hearing of the word, our prayers and the giving of ourselves.
In this sermon we'll consider the aspects of worship that come out of Numbers 7 and 8.
