The law of God was never given to clean up men... it was given to reveal how dirty and unclean unrighteous men are before a righteous and gracious God. Therefore, the law cannot justify a man, it can only reveal his uncleaness and condem him in his own personal sin. In some respects it's like this picture of my grandchildren with this delicious, but unhealthy, pile of banana pudding. My grandkids can eat this "goodness" with no shame or guilt because they have no clue of how unhealthy it is. Yes, it has bananas in it but it's loaded with a lot of sugar. They only know how good it taste. But some of you, on the other hand, can't eat it without condemning yourselves over the fact that it is bad for you, high in calories and only hurting your health and figure. Why, you're aware of its potential... they're not, so they will indulge it with no regrets. Yet, when they learn of its side effects, they may choose to eat it but they will eat it with guilt and shame. Knowledge does that... the law gives us knowledge of how sin is unhealthy and bad for us. But the knowledge and guilt won't stop some of us from eating it... it will only make us feel guilty when we do. Or it will make us feel better about "ourselves" (self righteousness) if we choose not to eat it. The law, and the knowledge it gives, provides no power to overcome sin and its desires. Sin takes advantage of us and uses this knowledge to condemn and kill the thing we once were free to do and enjoy. But the knowledge gives us no power to do what is right... it only exposes what's not right. The law is perfect in what it does... bu
