We find ourselves again this morning in the sermon series The Worship That Pleases God, and we will continue the new section: The Elements of Worship: The Means of God. Having established that the word of God, read and preached, comprise the chief elements of worship, I want to explore another essential element identified as sacred song. This sermon is extremely critical in the development of our series because of the incredible influence of what has become known as contemporary Christian worship, which is now “gospel” in most churches. But I hope to demonstrate both its inadequacy as a whole, and the superiority of the sacred song that is biblical, and which has characterized the church for centuries. I will base my argument on nothing but what the Bible reveals. It is my earnest prayer that the Lord will be pleased to grant us a great measure of spiritual discernment and heavenly wisdom from this sermon.
