Possibly the most powerful sermon that we have ever preached about our position in Christ. In order to understand Why Jesus came, and to see our Position in Christ, we need to understand who we are in the flesh. The Bible is clear that we are Dead in trespasses and sin's. And that we were born with a sin nature from Adam. Titus 3:3 says it this way " For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. The Bible is even clearer that every one of us is in that depraved God hating state, and that we have all cast in our lot against God and are absolutely hostile towards God, and incapable of pleasing God. Romans 8:7–8 For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God's law; indeed, it cannot. 8 Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. The Scriptures further tell us that even while we were still active in our rebellion and God hating sin, Christ died for us Romans 5:8. Now remember that the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost and that He will save all that the Father has given to Him and Lose none except the son of perdition John 17:12.We are talking about Particular Redemption. If you prefer, I'll use the term Limited Atonement. Jesus came to seek out those whom He would save, those whom God draws and calls. He does so by taking that Romans 9 universal lump of vile wickedness and making one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use. This is not some arbitrary act because of your actions and God get's angry or in some quick tempered fit of rage. This is the settled purpose of God.
