Whenever you read a book, do you read it thoroughly? Do you read the preface, introduction, and following appendices? Or are you one who skips to the first chapter and bypasses all the rest? Sometimes we are guilty of approaching Scripture in the same way we approach books. We put our minds in neutral while we read an Apostle's opening words, and only engage our hearts when we get into the "meat" of his epistle. But the introductions are not there by accident, they are given by inspiration of God to the profit of our souls, and the Lord never wastes words! So it is with the introduction to Romans. We might be tempted to go to verse 16 and begin there, but there is much food for our souls in the first 15 verses. In this sermon, we see that Paul shows us his heart in verses 8 through 15. Paul could say "follow me as I follow Christ", and here we learn much about his pattern of life. These are exhortations for you and I.
