The Lord went before Israel in Old Covenant times to deliver them from all of their difficulties as they trusted in Him. Going off of this, we are to be hearing an address to us, here, thousands of years later, of the New Covenant Community, of the New Israel in our Lord Jesus Christ. The Old Testament people is a type and example of the people of God in all ages. We as believers are a remant amongst the world. In our own strength and according to our own devices we surely and swiftly be utterly destroyed. But we have one thing which they do not have; namely, the Eternal, Almighty, Sovereign God of the Universe who never lies, and has promised to surround us, and fight for us, and will bring us safely into HIs heavenly Canaan. Therefore, really, there is no contest at all. But the test is - Will we see HIm who is invisible, and trust and obey in what He is calling us to do, even in the face of insurmountable odds; great opposition as it were? Or, will we react with a heart of disbelief as the Israelites did? I come with a message of great victory in the face of insurmountable odds. You face opposition from the enemy here in Tama. But let me give to you 2 main headings as I exposit this text. 1st - Consider the typological parallels in this text between the situation of the Old Covenant and New Covenant People of God. And 2nd - Considering the situation of the Captain of our Salvation, Jesus Christ the Victor. |
