For many people removing Christ from Christmas would make very little difference. For Santa Claus, his elves, and snowmen have for the most part replaced Jesus Christ. Very little television programming would change if Christ was removed. For stores, it would be business as usual. For the most part, removing Christ from Christmas had little to no affect on many in our country for very little thought was given to the One whose birthday we celebrated. So, why do WE celebrate Christmas? What difference does His birth make? What did the world have the Sunday after Christmas that it did not have the Sunday before? We celebrate today because we have a clearer picture of who God is and what He is like! 'If only I could see God' has been the cry of many before Bethlehem. Well, Jesus Christ is the personification of God in the flesh! To see Him was to see the Father. We celebrate today because our God has identified with us! He knows what it is like to be confined to a human body, to be tempted like us, and he can empathize with our weaknesses. But He not only understands, He cares and stands ready to help us. We celebrate today because our enemy has been defeated! Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of the devil, the one who keeps us in bondage to sin and death! We celebrate the birth of our conquering Savior! We also celebrate today because it is possible for us to have a personal relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ! By His death on the cross, He fully satisfied the demands of His holy Father so that we can now be reconciled to God! So the ultimate cause of celebration is the personal relationship with God we now enjoy through Christ!
