Luke begins his gospel by introducing us to a few characters; a priest, his wife and their son, Zechariah, Elizabeth and John who would become “the baptist.” Then we're introduced to Mary, a young lady who would supernaturally conceive the Messiah. Then there are unnamed shepherds in the field to whom angels anounce the birth of Jesus, then break out in praising God. All of these characters share a common experience. Joy. Joy as they come to realize that the arrival of the Messiah was the fulfillment of God's promises. What about us today? Do we continue to look forward to and anticipate the joy of of God fulfilling his remaining promises?
