Paul's fervent love and concern for the Corinthians motivated and informed all of his interaction with them. He carried them on his heart and longed to see them thrive in their faith and grow up in all things into Christ the Head. And carrying that burden, he couldn't close out his epistle without exhorting the Corinthians one final time. These exhortations address both personal and corporate issues and, coming as they do at the end of the epistle, serve to summarize and bind up Paul's instruction throughout. Thus they must not be passed over as an afterthought or superfluous appendage, but must be read and interpreted in the light of the entire epistle and its concerns, orientation and message.
