Isaiah promised that when John the Baptist came, the Glory of the Lord would be revealed to all mankind.
Some might ask, when did this happen? Except when the angels announced the incarnation, and at the transfiguration, there were no blazing lights displayed to anybody, much less to all men.
But the Glory of the Lord is not primarily the blazing light that He showed forth at times in the Old Testament. Too often we read of God's Glory and we forget the real meaning of the word.
Glory is the excellence of some characteristic or work of an entity, something that shines praiseworthyness upon it.
God is perfect and excellent in everything He does and is, and therefore any manifestation or knowledge of the truth about God and His works is glorious.
In the scriptures there are several examples of the revelation of God's wonderful works and attributes being called the Glory of the Lord.
When Moses begged God to show him His Glory, God's reply was to show His Goodness, His Name, and His electing mercy and graciousness.
Luke's translation of the Hebrew of Isaiah 40 proves that the Glory of the Lord that was to be revealed was God's salvation! In other words, the incarnation, and the revelation of Jesus Christ as God's Lamb to take away sin and save His people IS the revelation of God's Glory that was promised!
Jesus manifest in the flesh as revealing God's Glory is consistent with His being called the Light, for Light reveals God's truth to man.
Several places, the Scriptures link Christ's death at Calvary with the Glory of God. Indeed, the brightest blaze of God's Glory was seen when our Lord Jesus hung upon the cross to save His people! He is worthy!
