Gavin says: "I'm preaching … on issues to do with diverse views on soul annihilation & eternal torment in hell … . 'Are prepubescent children e.g. those dying before they commit actual sin, saved?;' & … what happens to unsaved 'children … dying before they' are old enough to 'commit actual sin.' … The 8 sermons … start today, the 4th day of Christmas, which is The Innocents' Day … & finish tomorrow, the 5th day of Christmas. In this series we shall consider the issue of what happens to prepubescent children who die in infancy, such as 'children … dying before they' are old enough to 'commit actual sin,' a matter of relevance to this day on the Calendar of the Anglican 1662 Book of Common Prayer which remembers with a red letter day the events from near the time of Christ's Nativity, when as recorded in St. Matthew 2:16, 'Herod … slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under.' In this 1st of 8 sermons, we shall consider 1stly, degrees of punishment in hell, with some comparison of certain Scriptures used for soul annihilation in hell & eternal punishment in hell; 2ndly, some diverse Jewish views on punishment in hell found in ancient times, both in favour of soul annihilation in hell in the Apocryphal Book of II or IV Esdras, & also in favour of eternal torment in hell in the Pseudepigraphal Book of IV Maccabees; & 3rdly, some diverse Christian views on punishment in hell found in ancient times, both in favour of soul annihilation in hell by Bishop Ireneus of Lyons in western Europe who died around 200 A.D., & also in favour of eternal torment in hell by Bishop Augustine of Hippo in north Africa who died in 430."
