Another question is put to us by our Lord, through the Apostle Paul, âYou will say to me then, âWhy does He still find fault? For who has resisted His will?'â (Rom 9:19). In the LORD'S corrective answer the pride of man is dealt a heavy blow, âindeed, O man, who are you to reply against Godâ (Rom 9:20)? How needful it is for our hearts, minds, and souls to be brought under stern rebuke when we venture into the realm of blaspheme. Our heavenly Father is faithful to bring needed correction to our deceitful and desperately wicked hearts that would lead us into heresy. However, in defending His right to elect and reject according to His sovereign will (not the fickle, fallen will of man), the Lord in no way retreats from a clear declaration of His absolute sovereignty over mankind, but rather advances His rightful claim to AMAZING SOVEREIGN GRACE. God is the potter and we are the clay. The Lord establishes His Potter's rights in saying, âDoes not the potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonorâ (Rom 9:21)? Here we learn to elevate the will and rights of the Potter, not the will or rights of the clay.
