When we get most discouraged is when we focus on ourselves. In writing Colossians, Paul said I give thanks for you all. We get no sense at all that being in prison was a problem. He was completely focused on the work of God in the lives of those he was writing to. Paul is ever mindful that his God is at work in the lives of individual people. Much of his prayer life was an expression of gratitude to God. Paul was ministering to encourage to nuture and build up the church. He was praying for the Colossians, people he had never met. He was thrilled to hear of God's work in their lives. His savior had done a mighty work and that filled him with gratitude.
