You Thought the Gift of God Could Be Purchased with Money
The text for this week will be Acts 8:14-25. In this passage the Holy Spirit comes to the Samaritans. They have believed and they have been baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, but the Holy Spirit had not fallen upon any of them. When Peter and John come, they lay hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. Simon sees this and responses with a problem that has been in the church ever since, people want positions of prominence not to serve God, but because their hearts are, as Peter said, "poisoned by bitterness and bound by iniquity." May we always remember that the purpose of the church is to glorify God and not to bring glory to anyone who ministers.
