Simeon was a man looking for the consolation of Israel. He was looking eagerly for the Christ. And he was promised by the Spirit that he would not die for he saw the Lord. When the day came, and Jesus was brought as a baby into the temple to be circumcised, Simeon took the Child in his arms and said, "Let your servant depart in peace, for I have seen your salvation" (paraphrase). Why was Simeon so eager? What did the coming of Christ entail?
Like Simeon, believers today are still eager for Christ. We are eagerly awaiting His coming. But as Simeon felt he could die in peace once he had seen Jesus, when we see Jesus, death will be no more.
