The reason Christ's rule as our King will succeed where all other kings failed is that He alone is able to save us from eternal death, and He has done so by offering Himself as our Lamb of sacrifice unto God.
Not only does His sacrifice ensure the success of His reign, but it is also the reason for His reign.
God exalted Christ as our Prince because His is God's Lamb. Christ has been exalted our King because he saved His people by His own bloodshedding at Calvary.
God the Father thought it proper that we should be ruled by a Man - not by angels or spirits or aliens, but by a Man. That is why He promised a Child, a Son who would be God Himself manifest in the flesh. The incarnation is the means by which God sent a Man to save us and to rule us.
Paul makes it clear: Christ is highly exalted because He submitted to death to save His people.
Isaiah had already prophesied that because Christ laid down His life and bore the sins of His people, God would give Him great spoil and honor and power.
The Saints themselves in Glory proclaim that Christ is worthy to assume all power by taking the book and opening the seals, because He was slain for us, and redeemed us by His blood!
Thus, the prophets, the Father, and the Saints all observe that Christ's reign is not due to His taking it by violence, by trickery, by promises, or even by inheritance.
Rather, Christ reigns because He saved His people already at the Cross!
Imagine that! He assumes power and reign, not on account of expectations or promises, like all earthly rulers, but because He has already performed the duties of a King - protecting and saving His people! Dying was His reign's beginning!
