Our purpose in life as Christians is to serve the Lord. We want to serve the Lord without being detered or distracted from that task. Our duties to God must come before our duties to men. William Tyndale illustrates this truth. Tyndale mastered 8 languages including Latin and Greek. Tyndale knew that the Bible needed to be translated into the language of the people. He sought to do this, but he was not given permission to do so. So Tyndale knew that he must obey God rather than man. He taught himself Hebrew and he began to translate. Many Bibles were beginning to be read by the people. Eventually the authorities caught up with him, and he was betrayed by a supposed friend into their hands. He was put in prison. Some time later he was martyred for his faith and for his work. Why do I begin with this? Because we too, must obey God rather than man. Today we are going to be talking about Christ coming to do His Father's business. Jesus as a 12 yr. old boy could keep pace with the scholars and theologians of his day in his answers to them. But Mary couldn't understand why Jesus stayed behind and did not leave with them. He told her that He must be about His Father's business. He was intent on executing His Father's commands. He was free of sin in relation to His commands given to Him by His parents. Why did He have to stay 3 whole days longer? Because He was increasing in wisdom and stature and preparing Himself to do His Father's will in everything. Christ grew in His understanding, and yet had no errors in His understanding. We should strive to grow in our understanding and desire to be where God's word is preached or taught.
